Review: Amber Mimz Georgetown Apple Store

Who is Amber Mimz? Only the most soulful and stylish soul star to hail from Washington, D.C.! Just ask anyone who attended her show at Georgetown’s Apple Store on April 30th. Event attendees included some of DC’s elite and many popular media sources including: Founder of DCtoBC Modele “Modi” Oyewole, Madison Davenport INK, Studio 43’s General Manager Ricky Parker DMVvixen.com, Pop artist Sheila D, and Candice Nicole of Candice Nicole Public Relations.

Family, friends fans and Apple store patrons couldn’t help but sway to Amber’s sweet sounds once she hit the stage in a ‘Marry-Me’ veil, sweetheart lace top, flirty pink skirt and a pair of pumps that enticed all of the men in the audience.

From the first keystroke by her pianist and guitar player, Mimz gave the audience a flirtatious and rocking performance with singles from her latest EP “Urban Romance Sessions”. Mimz’ showed a more sensual side while doing a mash-up of Janet Jackson’s “Anytime, Anyplace” with her latest single “4 Head Kiss.” Everyone in the audience became an “Urban Romantic” once Mimz performed her most popular single “Urban Romance Ave.” featuring popular DC rap native Black Cobain. Amber also performed her hit, “Hypnotize Me” with friend, former band mate and MTV Sucker Free Count Down Host RatheMC.

Great live performances can be hard to come by but Amber Mimz definitely amplifies her fans experience when performing. After her amazing set, AimerAmour spoke to Mimz about her summer plans.

AimerAmour: Congratulations on a great show! What did you think about your first performance at the Georgetown Apple Show?

Amber Mimz: Thank you. I think it went very well considering we didn’t get a chance to do a sound check. There’s so much that goes on before a live show that people don’t see but the band sounded great and the audience was very receptive, I had a great time.

AA: As an emerging artist in DC, how have you been able to get the word out about your brand and your sound?

AM: You definitely need to have a team. I’ve been blessed to have some great people in my circle. Get a team that’s going to work with you and for you and really believe in you. Surround yourself with people who aren’t doing it for the money, especially not in the beginning of your career. But what’s most important is that you believe in yourself, which will make every one else follow suit.

AA: What are you working on for the summer and what are you looking forward to for 2012?

AM: I’m working on a new mixtape that will be out before the end of the summer. And as far as the end of 2011 and 2012, the skies the limit; I’m always writing, recording and performing. One of my goals is to perform at the House of Blues in Los Angeles, California. Everyday, I’m working hard to let people know that Amber Mimz is what’s next!
