On Thursday, July 7th AimerAmour was in attendance at the In-Store for R&B artist LLOYD sponsored by DTLR (Downtown Locker Room) in Baltimore, Maryland. The New Orleans native recently released his fourth studio album, “King of Hearts” featuring the hit single, “Lay it Down”. Even through stormy weather, fans of all ages came to show their support for the singer who gave an amazing live performance of several tracks from “King of Hearts” including “Cupid” and “Lay It Down”.
“King of Hearts” is Lloyd’s first album in three years since leaving The Inc. and signing to Zone 4/Interscope. With Polow da Don as the album’s executive producer, Lloyd definitely delivers what many fans and critiques are calling his best album to date. Album highlights include: “Be the One” (featuring Trey Songz & Young Jeezy), “Angel” and the album’s third single, “Dedication to My Ex (Miss That)” (featuring Andre 3000 & Lil Wayne).
After the In-Store, AimerAmour speaks to the crooner about his new record deal, philanthropic aspirations and being under rated.
AimerAmour: It’s been seven years since the release of your debut album, “Southside” and many of your fans still think you’re underrated. How does that make you feel?
Lloyd: I think it’s motivating. It gives you a reason to always want to come back stronger and better and prove the naysayers wrong. I don’t think critics make or break a person or the integrity of their music but it’s nice to finally have an album that’s been critically acclaimed.
AA: Why did you sign to Zone 4 as opposed to just signing with Interscope?
L: I partnered with Zone 4 to do this album; Zone 4 being Polow da Don, Keri Hilson, Timothy Bloom and several other very talented artists. I guess the difference is the continuity of the music when you work with just one producer. Which is exactly what I was looking for. Polow and I spent a lot of time and energy on the music and its given me a much stronger sound.
AA: Do you have any entrepreneurial endeavors outside of music?
L: Yes, I want to use my talents to hopefully shed light on people who grew up fatherless. I want to be the voice for people who don’t have the liberty to speak and express their feelings and thoughts. Ultimately, I want to make the world a better place in any way I can.
AA: You’ve already accomplished so much at 25, what’s something you hope to accomplish by 30?
L: Oh my God, 30? Um, I just want to work hard everyday and take advantage of every opportunity so that by the time I’m 30 I’ll be somewhere I could have never imagined.
